나는 언니와 원룸에서 함께 살고 있다.
원룸이라는 공간은 두 사람이 지내기 기형적인 공간이다. 사생활을 보호해주는 벽이 없기 때문에 나는 원룸에 유일하게 방이라고 할만한 공간인 화장실에 애착을 가지기 시작한다. 그 이후로 화장실이라는 공간은 점차 확장, 변이되어서 내가 갈수 없는곳, 가질수 없는 공간에 대한 소유욕을 담아내는 작업으로 현재까지 이어져 오고 있다.
앞서 말한, 공간에 대한 소유욕은 사실 비단 나에게만 국한된 소유욕이라고 볼수는 없다. 시작점이 화장실이라는 점만 달랐을 뿐이지 나를 비롯한 많은 사람들은 공간에 대한 소유욕을 가지고 있다. 쉽게는 집을 사는 행위, 그 집안에 개인의 방이 필요한 까닭등 에서 이 욕구를 읽어낼수 있다. 여기서 재밌는 것은 우리가 소유욕을 느끼는 영역이 공공장소로 까지 이어진다는 점이다. 까페나 교실에 즐겨 앉던 자리에 누가 앉아있을때 느끼는 당혹감이나 박탈, 허탈감이 그 예시다.
이제 공공장소의 영역을 ‘공원’이라는 장소까지 넓혀보자.피크닉을 하는 공간인 ‘공원’은 ‘자연’이라는 누구도 소유할수 없는 형태지니고 있다. 하지만 더불어서 ‘공원’은 인간의 손에서 인공적으로 생겨난 장소이기도 하다. 이러한 인공과 자연 이라는 대치되는 단어 사이에 존재하는 ‘공원’은 소유할수 없는 것을 소유하고자 하는 나의 원대한 꿈을 반영하는 공간으로 자리매김하게 되었다. 이번 전시의 제목이자 작업의 제목인 <FAKE PICNIC>은 이러한 욕망에서 비롯된 작업이다. 이 작업은 허황된 꿈속에 사는 나의 작업세계를 적나라하게 드러내고 있다.

Artist statement
I have lived in a studio apartment with my sister.
It may be perfect for a person living alone but is never convenient for two people. As there are no walls to protect one’s private life, I have a strong attachment to the bathroom as it’s the only independent space in the studio apartment. Since then, bathroom has gradually expanded and transformed in my work to represent my desire to possess a space I cannot have.
I am not the only one who has a desire to possess a private space mentioned above. Many people desire their own space: the difference is that my desire is particularly motivated by the bathroom. This desire can be detected from an act of purchasing a house or a longing for a separate space in the house. What’s amusing here is our desire for privacy includes some public space. For instance, we feel some sense of deprivation, despondency, or embarrassment when someone takes my preferred seat in a café or a classroom.
Public space also includes parks. A park, a place for picnics has a form of ‘nature’ nobody can possess. All the same, the park is also a place artificially engendered by human hands. A park is placed somewhere between art and nature has been a space reflecting my far-reaching dream to possess something that cannot be owned. <Fake Picnic> the title of both my exhibition and work was derived from this desire or dream. This work explicitly unmasks my work that is usually carried out in a hollow dream.
